Background/Aims: The purpose of this study was to develop a new scoliosis orthosis that can finely adjust the angle for pressurization, reduce the rejection due to cosmetic problem, and with improve the ventilation to reduce the skin irritation problems in the compression area and wearing area caused by the spinal curvature correction compared to the conventional scoliosis orthosis.
Methods: For research purpose, first, an angle-adjustment device with three bars and four hinges was developed to finely adjust the angle according to the angle of spinal curvature of the users. Secondly, the pelvic part and the pressing parts were designed as open type using CAD. Third, a dial-type lock was applied for pressurization and suspension functions.
Result: The developed angle-adjustment device consists of three segments, including uprights and hinges capable of adjusting angles in a maximum range of 50 degrees. The material of the hinge and upright is stainless steel and aluminum alloy, respectively. In addition, the angle-adjustment device is connected with pelvic band, thoracic pad, pressure pad, and can be applied with openness. Dial lock is applied for the suspension and further pressurization.
Conclusion:It is expected that itwill bepossible tocontinuouslyapplythe counterpressure according to the change of the spinalcurvature by wearingnewly developed angle-adjustmentdevice, andto provide the ventilationand appearance improvementduring wearing.(
